Please tell us about your current work
I am responsible for the construction and operation of the company's IT infrastructure. Specifically, I manage the arrangement, setup, and network wiring of PCs for use by employees, as well as the introduction, maintenance, and operation of internal servers.
Servers and PCs tend to break down as they get older, so we will prepare for updating or replacing the equipment based on discussions with the manufacturer. If there is a difference of opinion at the stage of meeting with the manufacturer, there is a possibility that defects and problems will occur after the introduction, so it is important to be able to clearly convey your requests to the manufacturer.
You may also be responsible for creating (programming) internal applications.
Is there a gap between when you joined the company and now?
Kurashiki Kako is a manufacturer, and I had the impression that it was not making much progress in introducing IT technology. However, I was surprised at the fact that each department was aware of new IT technology and that the company as a whole was working on it. The goal is business improvement. We are trying to create an environment where people can concentrate on creative work by automating the routine work that people do manually using computers. In addition, my superiors and colleagues in the Information Systems Section have extremely high skills, and I myself feel that it is an environment where it is easy to propose new systems to the company.
Please tell us about the job that has shook your heart the most.
The system I developed myself supports and operates the internal business system.
We have introduced RPA*, a system that allows AI (artificial intelligence) to learn and automate the work that humans do in routine work.
Since it was the first attempt to introduce RPA within the company, I felt a great responsibility to think about and propose the most suitable software from among the many software available, as there were not many people to rely on.
First of all, in order to understand the current situation, we held thorough interviews with the departments considering the introduction, and clarified each and every problem that could be solved by using RPA and problems that could be considered at the time of introduction. We communicated these to the manufacturer, and even after the software was installed, we continued to fumble and investigate, until the actual operation was completed.
I had a lot of trouble doing my own research and making inquiries with the manufacturer, but I feel that I gained the ability to clarify problems and express my opinions clearly, which has led to my current confidence.
*RPA: Abbreviation for Robotic Process Automation. It is an initiative to automate and replace the work done by humans using computers with software. It is expected to improve the efficiency of operations.
